The European Economics and Financial Centre is engaged in research and advisory work in the areas of economics and finance. It works closely with the financial community at large including many central banks, Ministries of Finance/Economy, as well as international organizations. Among its aims and capabilities are the establishment of closer links between the practitioner (both in the public and private sectors) and the theorist in the areas of economics and finance.

At any given time the EEFC has active many research projects on a cross-section of topics ranging from issues related to European integration, the single currency and behaviour of exchange rates to different aspects of financial markets, including financial crisis, sovereign debt market, the derivatives market, as well as dealing practices and regulatory environments of the global financial industry. It also produces macroeconomic studies of different economies - examining their structural changes.

In addition, the Centre runs a number of symposia, workshops, and short courses. The Centre also has many publications - notable among them are the journals: Economic and Financial Review, Economic and Financial Modelling, and Economic and Financial Computing. Moreover, it produces three book series: The Economics of the Financial World and Stock Markets, International Studies in Economic Modelling, and Advances in Theoretical and Applied Economics. In addition, the European Economics and Financial Centre publishes monographs, and research reports.
